Here's a screenshot of my iPad app, the yellow buttons are the matrix of justly intonated pitches, the red dots with lines are parameters such as delay feedback, reverb, lopass frequency and resonance, and fm modulation index.
Fm synthesis is really easy to do.... x = sin(y + z*sin(w)), pretty much.
Bridget Riversmith and I (her animation, my music) collaborated on this short film called Cloud and Bird, based on a poem by Basho, master poet of the Edo period, Japan.
The film has been shown at:
November 5, 2010 IFP Minnesota's Cinema Lounge: Indie Film Night in Duluth Zinema2 Theater
October 10, 2010 Sunday Night Multimedia Series: "Virtual Playground" Reynolds Recital Hall Montana State University, Bozeman, MT
September 11, 2010 2010 Whiskey Creek Film Festival: Short films by Minnesota filmmakers Cozy Theatre, Wadena, MN
The other Bridget film to which I supplied the soundtrack is below here, it's had many showings all over the world:
Just developed an iPad app that is an FM synthesizer with reverb, delays, and a simulated Moog filter. The tones are informed by W. A. Mathieu's Harmonic Experience, 24 justly tuned pitches, perfect for my wind chimey music. I'll post sound and pictures soon. Everyone should own that book, it's an awesome exploration of pitch.
It's a drag that computers are so easy to work with, but they are easy to work with. Next, I'll have to build little light boxes that will bluetooth info into my iPad synthesizer. I think I know how I'll do that.
